Genetic Variability and Path Analysis for Yield and its related Traits in Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.)

Abstract: An experiment was conducted to study the nature and magnitude of genetic variability with a view to identify promising genotypes for yield and related traits in linseed. Eighteen diverse linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) genotypes were evaluated in randomized block design in three replications during rabi 2019-20 for twelve agro morphological characters to assess the genetic parameters of variability. Analysis of variance indicated presence of a wide range of genetic variability among genotypes for all the trai… Show more

“…This trait also expressed high heritability value of 96.80% followed by high GA of 25.48%. These results are consistent with the reports of Thakur et al, (2020) [24] in Linseed, Sikarwar et al, (2017) [22] in Yellow Sarson, Chavan and Chopade (1981) [4] in Sesame and Leelavati and Mogali (2018) in Linseed. The PCV for number of capsules per plant in M 3 progenies was found to be moderate with the value of 16.87% and it was recorded a moderate GCV of 16.80%.…”

“…In present study, high heritability was also reported, along with low genetic advance as a percent of mean, showing the role of non-additive gene action in determining the inheritance of days to maturity. These results are in broad agreement with the reports of Shivani et al, (2011) [20] in Safflower Khattab et al, (2018) [9] in Safflower, Minnie et al, (2020) [13] in Safflower, Thakur et al, (2020) [24] in Linseed, Meena et al, (2020) [12] in Linseed and Belete et al, (2012) in Ethiopian mustard. Plant height in M 3 progenies registered a low PCV of 5.92% and a low GCV of 5.88%.…”

“…Table (12,13) shows that the degree of dominance was greater than the right one in all the studied qualities, indicating that the dominant genetic act is controlled by the inheritance of attributes, which requires that the breeding programs be hybrid force and that the election is in the late isolationist generations and requires the search genetic constructions that isolate the ultra-boundary [21]. Inheritance in the broad sense was higher than 60% in all the studied characteristics and under the plant densities except the number of days of flowering 50% the first density and the number of capsules m2 the second density which was medium affecting the increased role adapted to the environment in these qualities is consistent with [22][23][24], And inheritance in a narrow sense, their grades were low for all the studied qualities in all the qualities studied except the qualities of the number of capsules m2 and the weight of 1000 seeds and the seed crop were in the second density, The low degree of inheritance in a narrow sense is reflected in the projected genetic improvement values as a percentage as they are low in all qualities and both densities are consistent with [25][26][27].…”

“…The results of research by foreign scientists indicate a positive relationship between the yield of linseed, the number of bolls and the number of shoots. Research (Paul & Kumar, 2019;Thakur et al, 2020) proved the direct effect of stems and side shoots on the number of bolls and their indirect effect on the biological yield of flax. At the same time, lateral shoots demonstrated a stronger positive effect on the mass of seeds from the plant compared to stems.…”
