Genetic variability and frequency distribution studies in F2 population involving traditional variety mappillai samba

Abstract: An experiment was performed to analyse the variability parameters and frequency distribution properties in F 2 population of CBMAS 14065 x Mappillai Samba for grain yield and its associated parameters. The estimated genetic parameters showed, slightly higher PCV than GCV reflecting the influence of environment. High GCV, high PCV, high heritability along with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed in the number of filled grains per panicle suggests the additive gene action which is important for… Show more

“…Similar findings were reported in rice byBhargava et al (2021) andFathima et al (2021) for plant height, the number of productive tillers per plant, the number of grains per panicle and single plant yield;Nikhitha et al (2020) andSingh et al (2021) for plant height. But panicle exhibited high heritability (69.49%) and moderate GAM (12.88%) (Table3) which were in accordance withNikhitha et al (2020),Bhargava et al (2021) andSingh et al (2021) in rice.…”

“…However, low PCV and GCV were recorded for days to first flowering, thousand grain weight, kernel length before cooking and breadthwise elongation ratio which indicates that lower variation may be due to a narrow genetic base. These results were in accordance with Divya et al (2018) and Nikhitha et al (2020) for days to first flowering.…”

“…Low heritability and GAM were found in kernel breadth before cooking, length-breadth ratio, kernel breadth after cooking and alkali spreading value which indicates that the expression of these traits is highly influenced by the environment. Similar observations were recorded by Behera et al (2018) and Nikhitha et al (2020) for length-breadth ratio.…”
