Genetic relationships among Eurasian Puccinellia distans genotypes

Abstract: a b s t r a c tPuccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl. is a common grass species found throughout the world. It can grow in arid and saline environments as well as under toxic boron concentrations. In this work we performed sequence related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) marker analysis on 20 wild P. distans genotypes to understand the genetic relationships among different genotypes and subspecies. We tested 119 SRAP primer pairs and found that 43 were polymorphic. The molecular data were then analyzed to determine t… Show more

“…Nevertheless, ongoing events of long range dispersal may not be excluded: it may be useful to cite a study on Puccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl., a species very similar to P. fasciculata, according to which genetic affinity found in individuals from different Eurasian countries was attributed to anemochory, as well as to antropochory (Bar et al 2015). If the same dispersal mechanisms occurred in P. fasciculata, its seed could cover some tens of kilometres, making a connection between the Po valley and the highest sites, like the Salse di Nirano, repeatedly possible even nowadays.…”

“…Thus, a complete characterization of ornamental purslane resources is an important link between the conservation and utilization of these resources. The sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) technique is an open reading frames-based marker system that targets functional genes (Li and Quiros 2001) and has been used for various purposes, say, cultivar or hybrid discrimination (Zhang et al 2012;Yu et al 2016), linkage map construction (Zhang et al 2011), and genetic diversity evaluation (Bar et al 2015;Li et al 2016;Valdez-Ojeda et al 2014) as well. The objectives of the present study were to unravel the genetic diversity and structure among ornamental purslane accessions from P. grandiflora and P. umbraticola collected in China using SRAP makers.…”
