Genetic relationship between lodging and lodging components in barley (Hordeum vulgare) based on unconditional and conditional quantitative trait locus analyses

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Lodging (LD) is a major constraint limiting the yield and forage quality of barley. Detailed analyses of LD component (LDC) traits were conducted using 246 F 2 plants generated from a cross between cultivars ZQ320 and 1277. Genetic relationships between LD and LDC were evaluated by unconditional and conditional quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping with 117 simple sequence repeat markers. Ultimately, 53 unconditional QTL related to LD were identified on seven barley chromosomes. Up to 15 QTL account… Show more

“…Co-localization of these QTLs may be due to pleiotropy or linkage (Li et al, 2015b). Six QTLs with pleiotropic effects were found between markers Bmag353 and GBM1482 on chromosome 4H in barley (Chen et al, 2014). These results show that there was at least partial genetic overlap between K, Mg, and Ca concentrations in the RIL population, which is similar to co-localizations of QTLs for functional components.…”

“…Resistance to lodging depends on morphological, physiological, and biochemical traits and is related to stem strength, plant height, wall thickness, lignin content, and center of gravity (Kong et al, 2013; Chen et al, 2014; Ookawa et al, 2014). Lodging resistance (LR) and lodging resistance index (LRI) are closely associated with the actual lodging score at the field level (Islam et al, 2007).…”
