Genetic Properties and Antimicrobial Resistance of Campylobacter jejuni Isolates from Diarrhea Patients in Gyeonggi-do

Abstract: Campylobacter jejuni is one of important food-borne pathogens causing human gastroenteritis. We isolated 42 strains of C. jejuni from diarrhea patients and 4 food-poisoning outbreaks in 2010, Gyeonggi-do. In this study, 42 strains were tested for genetic characteristics, the serotype distribution and antimicrobial resistant rate. The presence of hipO (100%), cdtB (100%), and mutated gyrA (

“…However, our results demonstrated 32.3% of tetracycline resistance in human patients ( Table 2 ). According to another domestic report, the tetracycline resistance rate between 2009 and 2013 was 74.6% for human isolates and 81.0% for animal isolates [ 35 ], and the tetracycline resistance rate among human isolates in Gyeonggi-do, Korea, in 2010 was 69% [ 46 ]. Additionally, according to a domestic report on poultry, the tetracycline resistance rate of poultry isolates in 2013 was 52% in chickens and 97% in ducks [ 38 ].…”
