Genetic profile characterization and segregation analysis of 10 X-STRs in a sample from Santander, Colombia

Abstract: Ten X-chromosome short tandem repeats (X-STRs: DXS8378, DXS7132, DXS9898, DXS6809, DXS6789, DXS101, GATA172D05, HPRTB, DXS8377, and DXS7423) were analyzed in a sample of unrelated individuals (108 males and 110 females) from the Santander Department in Colombia. In this sample, gene diversities varied between 63.56%, for DXS8378, and 91.41%, for DXS8377. For this set of 10 X-STRs, a high discrimination power was obtained for both male (1 in 3 x 10(6)) and female (1 in 9 x 10(10)) samples and a high mean exclus… Show more

“…The allele 7 of GATA172D05 was reported in German, Korean, and Colombian population but is absent in the Pakistani population, consistent with the Italian population [4,[16][17][18][19]. The allele 10 of marker HPRTB was reported in German, Hungarian, Korean, African Americans, Hispanics, and Portuguese populations but were not observed in the Pakistani population [1,4,15,17]. Presence of new alleles was confirmed by sequencing the PCR products.…”

“…The p values of the 13 loci showed no significant differences (p>0.05). Among these data, two alleles of DXS8377 have not been reported previously [3,11,[16][17][18]. These two new alleles were sequenced for confirmation and the results are presented in Table 3.…”

“…Recently, more and more X-STR loci have been reported for forensic purpose [2][3][4]. Some genetic polymorphisms of them have been conducted in a number of populations [5][6][7]. Although China is the largest multi-ethnic country in the world with a population of about 1.4 billion, there are few reports about both polymorphism and mutation rates of X-STR loci in Chinese populations.…”
