Genetic Polymorphisms in Southwest Alaskan Eskimos

Abstract: Allele frequencies of 28 genetic loci were determined in subsets (n ranged from 52 to 698) of a sample of Yupik-speaking Eskimos from southwestern Alaska. Five loci were monomorphic (Kell Kp(b+), ADA1, AK1, HBA, and PGDA). At the other loci, the most frequent alleles were ABO⁰ (0.580), Fya (0.960), Jkb (0.513), Ms (0.333), CDe (0.591), ACPA (0.566), ESD1 (0.890), GLO2 (0.736), GPT1 (0.653), … Show more

“…For this data, the genetic similarity matrix required for the association analysis was calculated using the genotype data from the linkage panel merged with the additional genotypes of the SNP genotyped for this study. The admixture with Caucasian populations in this cohort was negligible [53], making admixture estimation unnecessary. Allele frequencies for rs4936356 were estimated using the MENDEL program [54].…”

“…Several of the specificities detected among the Kaingang are shared by both population samples (KIV and KRC): A2, 24, 31; B35, 39,40,48,51,62;Cwl,w2,w3,w4,w7; DR2, 4, 8; DQ3. The alleles determining these specificities account for cumulated frequencies of 0.926 at the HLA-A locus, 0.935 at HLA-B, 0.830 at HLA-C, 0.928 at HLA-DR, and 0.451 at HLA-DQ.…”

“…Alaskan Eskimo samples were collected from Kodiak Island [Old Harbor (n = 156) and Ouzinkie (n = 56)] (Majumder et al, 1988), St. Lawrence Island [Savoonga (n = 68) and Gambell (n = 72)] (Ferrell et al, 1981), and Southwestern Alaska Eupik Eskimos (n = 177)] (Petersen et al, 1991). DNA was extracted from plasma.…”
