Genetic polymorphism of plasma α1B‐glycoprotein and transferrin in arctic and silver foxes

Abstract: Plasma samples of 235 foxes from 38 complete families (14 of arctic foxes, 21 of silver foxes and 3 with arctic X silver fox hybrid offspring) were analysed by one-dimensional horizontal polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) pH 9.0 followed by general-protein staining of gels. A major postalbumin of fox plasma was identified as alB-glycoprotein (alB) by using immunoblotting with antiser m specific to human or pig plasma a l B . Four codominant, autosomal alleles of a , B were found in arctic foxes. Two tra… Show more

“…Inheritance data (Table 3) supported the hypothesis that the observed phenotypes were controlled by five codominant alleles, A , C , D , Fand S , at an autosomal locus. As in humans and other animal species Juneja et al 1987Juneja et al , 1988, we propose the locus symbol A I B for alB-glycoprotein in alpacas and llamas. By protein staining, A1B A, D and S variants each consisted of one major and one minor fraction, while A1B C and F variants consisted only of a single major fraction.…”

“…The relative mobilities of ten different plasma proteins are shown. The identification of prealbumin (Pr), albumin (Alb), Gc protein and a,B-glycoprotein (a,B) was according to JUNEJA et al (1988). The postalbumin, Po, described by JUNEJA et al (1988) is redesignated as postalbumin 2 (Pa2).…”
