RESUMO -Objetivou-se, no presente estudo, avaliar a produção de leite de caprinos leiteiros da região sudeste do Brasil, com intuito de verificar os fatores de meio e estimar os parâmetros genéticos pelo método dos mínimos quadrados (MMQ). Os controles de 1336 lactações foram inicialmente ajustados pela função multifásica (difásica) e calculou-se a produção de leite total (PLT). Os dados foram provenientes de sete propriedades e três raças (Parda Alpina, Saanen e Toggenburg). A média e o erro-padrão da PLT estimados pelo MMQ foram de 635,31 ±39,75 kg. A interação ano x estação do parto influenciou a PLT. Em um dos anos estudados, a PLT foi menor para as cabras paridas no final da estação. Nas três estações de parto, observou-se comportamento quadrático da PLT, em função dos anos de parto. Para as três estações, a PLT aumentou de 1986 até meados de 1990, decrescendo em seguida. A idade de máxima PLT foi observada aos 46,65 meses. Das três raças estudadas, observou-se que as raças Parda Alpina e Saanen apresentaram alternância de superioridade na PLT em algumas fazendas, porém maiores que a Toggenburg. Os coeficientes de herdabilidade e repetibilidade da PLT estimados pelo MMQ foram de 0,296 ± 0,079 e 0,277 ± 0,033, respectivamente. Estes resultados revelam baixa confiabilidade em poucas observações dessas características ou na inconsistência das estimativas da função multifásica. Como a PLT é uma característica limitada ao sexo, sugere-se o teste de progênie como método de seleção mais eficiente para os reprodutores e uso de inseminação artificial como processo de disseminação do material genético selecionado.Palavras-chave: caprinos, herdabilidade, produção de leite, repetibilidade Genetic and Environmental Factors Affecting Milk Production from Dairy GoatsABSTRACT -The objectives of this study were to evaluate the influence of environmental factors on milk production from dairy goats raised in the Brazilian Southeast and to estimate genetic parameters for this trait through least squares. The data originated from seven farms and three breeds (Alpine Brown, Saanen and Toggenburg). Milk yields obtained from 1,336 lactations were initially fitted to a diphasic function, whereby total milk production (TMP) was estimated. The overall mean and standard error for TMP were 635.31±39.75 kg. A significant year x kidding season interaction was observed. In all three kidding seasons a quadratic yearly trend of PLT was observed: it increased from 1986 until mid-1990, decreasing thereafter. Age of maximum PLT was estimated as 46.65 months. Alpine Brown was superior to Saanen in some farms, the opposite occurring in others, but both showed higher PLT values than Toggenburg. Estimated heritability and repeatability coefficients were 0.296±0.079 and 0.227±0.033, respectively. These results show low reliability due to the small number of observations or to inconsistent PLT estimates obtained through the biphasic function. ABSTRACT:The aim of the paper was to prove the accuracy of various statistical models of variance analysis for estimation of systematic factors that influence milk yield and fat and protein content in dairy goats. Data on daily milk production recorded by methods AT, AC or A4 for the population of Czech White Shorthaired Goats over 1992-2002 was used for calculations. A total of 78 736 test day from 6 234 goats were analysed. Average daily milk production was 3.09 kg with 3.72% of fat and 2.84% of protein. Variability of examined traits was significantly influenced by effects of herd-year or herd-test day, li�er size, parity, season of kidding, stage of lactation and the combined effect parity-year-season of kidding. (1999) found considerable differences in the evaluation of individual animals between the system of evaluation of dairy goats presently used in the Czech Republic and BVE done by BLUP Animal Model. MATERIAL AND METHODSData from the official milk recording of the Czech White Shorthaired breed of goats provided by the Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (SCHOK) was used as the basic material for our calculations. The analysed data were recorded in the period from 1992 to 2002. Daily milk production was recorded by methods AT, AC or A4 (ICAR, 2001). Although the analysed data were recorded in production operations, several fixed effects were included in the model. The most marked effects will be chosen using the ordinary Least Squares Method and the procedure GLM (SAS, 1996).Several checks of performance records were carried out in order to exclude logical inconsistencies and biological improbabilities: (a) Age at first kidding had to be at least 275 days. (b) Difference between lactation number and period (in years) from birth to the 31/12/n (n = production year): 0.5-2 years. (c) Test-day records included for year n had to be between the dates 1st October n-1 and the 31st March n+1. (d) Kidding date had to be between the dates 1st October n-1 and the 30th September n. Other used criteria are shown in Table 1. Poor quality data were excluded from the followings computations. The original performance record database included 87 736 test-day records. RESUMO -A caprinocultura leiteira no Brasil, apesar de ser uma atividade rural consolidada há algumas décadas, tem se mostrado totalmente dependente de outros países no que se refere ao melhoramento genético. A maioria dos plantéis existentes atualmente tem como base animais importados, e a renovação do material genético é feita por meio da importação de sêmen. Inexistem informações sobre o valor genético dos animais e sua evolução no decorrer dos anos. No presente trabalho, foram estimadas a herdabilidade e a repetibilidade da produção de leite utilizando o REML. Os valores obtidos foram 0,21557 e 0,21564, respectivamente. Para a predição do valor gênico dos animais, foi usado o procedimento BLUP com modelo animal. A mudança na tendência genética anual estimada por um modelo quadrático foi -0,8109 kg/ano 2 , indicando desaceleração no ganho genético. A correlação de Pearson entre os valores gênicos dos bodes estimados com base na média da capacidade provável de produção das filhas obtida pelo método de mínimos quadrados com as estimadas pelas equações do modelo misto foi de 0,5751. A correlação de SPEARMAN entre as classificações dos bodes obtidos pelos dois métodos foi de 0,5813. Most herds presently producing are based on imported animals, and genetic refreshment is obtained through imported semen. No information is available on the genetic values and their evaluation along the years. In this paper, heritability and repeatability estimates, obtained through REML, are reported for milk yield. The values were 0.21557 and 0.21564, respectively. The BLUP method with animal model was used to predict genetic values. The annual change in genetic trend, estimated by means of a quadratic model, was -0.8109 kg/year 2 , which indicates a slowdown in genetic gain. The Pearson correlation between buck genetic values estimated by means of the most likely production of daughters and least squares and those estimated through BLUP and mixed model equations was 0.5751; the Spearman correlation between buck ranks obtained by both methods was 0.5813.
