Bu çalışma da Kahramanmaraş ilinde yetiştirilen Siyah Alaca ve Simental sığırların süt akış hızı, sağım süresi ve süt verimine ilişkin fenotipik ve genetik parametre tahminleri elde edilmiştir. Araştırmada 150 baş Siyah Alaca ve 40 baş Simental ineğin süt verim kayıtları kullanılmıştır. Süt akış hızı, sağım süresi ve süt verimine ilişkin genel ortalamalar Siyah Alaca ırkında; 1.370.004 kg dak-1, 16.700.017 dak ve 21.320.026 kg, Simental ırkında ise 1.0470.007 kg dak-1, 17.740.034 dak ve 16.820.049 kg olarak hesaplanmıştır. Mevsim etkisi her iki ırkta da tüm özellikler için önemli (P0.0001) bulunmuştur. Sağım zamanı etkisi ise Siyah Alaca ırkında günlük süt verimi ve süt akış hızı, Simental ırkında ise günlük süt verimi ve sağım süresi için önemli (P0.0001) bulunmuştur. Süt akış hızı, sağım süresi ve süt verimine ilişkin kalıtım dereceleri Siyah Alaca ırkında; 0.110.015, 0.320.03 ve 0.130.02, Simental ırkında ise 1.0470.007 kg dak-1, 17.740.034 dak ve 16.820.049 kg olarak hesaplanmıştır. Her iki ırkta da sağım özellikleri arasındaki genetik korelasyonlar orta-yüksek bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmada ele alınan özelliklerin kalıtsal olduğu ve seleksiyonla geliştirilebileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.

Livestock phenomics and genetic evaluation approaches in Africa: current state and future perspectives

The African livestock sector plays a key role in improving the livelihoods of people through the supply of food, improved nutrition and consequently health. However, its impact on the economy of the people and contribution to national GDP is highly variable and generally below its potential. This study was conducted to assess the current state of livestock phenomics and genetic evaluation methods being used across the continent, the main challenges, and to demonstrate the effects of various genetic models on the accuracy and rate of genetic gain that could be achieved. An online survey of livestock experts, academics, scientists, national focal points for animal genetic resources, policymakers, extension agents and animal breeding industry was conducted in 38 African countries. The results revealed 1) limited national livestock identification and data recording systems, 2) limited data on livestock production and health traits and genomic information, 3) mass selection was the common method used for genetic improvement with very limited application of genetic and genomic-based selection and evaluation, 4) limited human capacity, infrastructure, and funding for livestock genetic improvement programmes, as well as enabling animal breeding policies. A joint genetic evaluation of Holstein-Friesian using pooled data from Kenya and South Africa was piloted. The pilot analysis yielded higher accuracy of prediction of breeding values, pointing to possibility of higher genetic gains that could be achieved and demonstrating the potential power of multi-country evaluations: Kenya benefited on the 305-days milk yield and the age at first calving and South Africa on the age at first calving and the first calving interval. The findings from this study will help in developing harmonized protocols for animal identification, livestock data recording, and genetic evaluations (both national and across-countries) as well as in designing subsequent capacity building and training programmes for animal breeders and livestock farmers in Africa. National governments need to put in place enabling policies, the necessary infrastructure and funding for national and across country collaborations for a joint genetic evaluation which will revolutionize the livestock genetic improvement in Africa.

The Effect of Phenotypic and Genotypic Factors on Some Yield Traits in Holstein Friesian Cows with High Milk Yield Reared in Türkiye

This study was carried out to determine the effects and phenotypic relationships of some environmental factors (first calving age, calving year, and calving season) on Lactation period, dry period, milk yield and Milkability traits. The material of the study was the lactation records of 1079 Holstein cows raised in a private dairy farm. As a result of analyses, the values of 305-DMY yield (305 DMY), the lactation period (LP), dry period (DP), time to reach peak yield (Tmax), peak yield (Ymax), average daily milk yield (ADMY), total lactation milk yield (ATMY) and age at first calving (AFC) were determined as 9926.3±178.1 kg, 318.1±1.4 days, 60.05±0.9 days, 95.2±2.1 days, 42.3±0.3 kg, 32.2±0.3 kg, 10248.7±94.1, and 26.7±0.2 months, respectively. In the study, the average milk flow rate (MFR) and the average milking time (MT) were found as 2.0±0.0 kg min-1 and 360.9±4.7 seconds, respectively. In addition, estimates of the 305-day mature equivalent milk yield (ME 305-d) and MFR were also found to be 0.41±0.24 and 0.51±0.30, respectively. As a result, this dairy farm can be recommended as an example to breeders who have just started their dairy farm in Turkey and countries with similar environmental conditions and are looking for a model.
