Genetic market in cattle (Bull, AI, FTAI, MOET and IVP): financial payback based on reproductive efficiency in beef and dairy herds in Brazil

Abstract: A number of reproductive biotechnologies are currently available to multiply offspring from high genetic merit animals to enhance reproductive efficiency and profitability both in dairy and beef herds. Some of these technologies such as fixed time artificial insemination (FTAI), when correctly implemented, generally allow greater reproductive performance than natural breeding. Besides the use of frozen-thawed semen during artificial insemination, cattle recipients can also be synchronized to receive embryos (p… Show more

“…To change this scenario, efficient reproductive programs that aim to increase the use of artificial insemination and embryo transfer on farms have been developed. These programs are currently established and present a positive economic return (Baruselli et al, 2018b), generating higher meat and milk production per area and more value for the beef and dairy production chain.…”

“…Raising a purebred stock of dairy cows to produce F1 cows is confronted with constraints, such as the unavailability of the required number of native cattle and national breeding policies ( Leroy et al., 2016 ). However, the propagation of high milk-producing readily available XB and HF cows through the MOET program to produce replacement heifers is a practical model ( Baruselli et al., 2018 ; Jarvis, 2019 ; Madalena, 2008 ).…”
