Genetic divergence and phosphorus use efficiency in the soybean with a view to biodiesel production

Abstract: -The soybean has an important role in the area of biodiesel, due to having a productive potential and technical feasibility able to meet the growing demand for renewable fuels. In the agricultural year of 2009/10, four competitive trials of soybean cultivars were carried out, two on the Campus of Palmas University and the other two on the University Campus at Gurupi, with a study of genetic divergence being undertaken. At each location, the cultivars were trained under conditions of both high and low phosphoru… Show more

“…Grouping of genotypes obtained by UPGMA and Tocher optimization methods were identical; corroborating with results obtained by Almeida et al(2011), Reina et al (2014, and Sousa et al (2015), who also reported similarity between two methods.…”

“…In addition, Sousa et al (2015) observed eight groups by using a cutoff point of 43%. Reina et al (2014) defined the cutoff point in 52% of dissimilarity in the dendrogram, which separated the evaluated genotypes into six groups.…”

“…Within this context, Peluzio et al (2012) and Shadakshari et al (2011) have used the Tocher's optimization method to estimate the diversity among genotypes evaluated by agronomic traits. Reina et al (2014), also based on agronomic traits and using Tocher method, verified 11 cultivars separated into four genetically distinct clusters.…”

“…Research has been carried out on genetic diversity in phosphorus use efficiency in many crops, using multivariate techniques, and yielded very encouraging results (Cock et al, 2002;Mundim et al, 2013;Reina et al, 2014); however, there are no literature studies addressing the mineral nutrition as it relates to the popcorn crop under field conditions. Given the current agricultural scenario, the generation of cultivars better adapted to soils poor in phosphorus and the introduction and use of genotypes selected for certain environments bring an interesting perspective about the efficiency in the use of the phosphate fertilizer and the sustainability of the production system.…”
