Genetic Differentiation among Danish Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) Populations

Abstract: M~L E RHANSEN, hi., LOESCHCKE, V., RASMUSSEN, G. and SIMONSEN, V. 1993 Brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) from twelve locations in small rivers in Jutland, Denmark, were examined by allozyme electrophoresis. Seven of the locations are tributaries to the small (3.3 km2) Lake Hald. These and two other locations are assumed to have been mainly inaccessible to gene flow from outside for hundreds of years because of impassable dams. The levels of polymorphism indicated that little or no loss of genetic variation had occ… Show more

“…KAR and HAL have previously been stocked with exogenous trout, but two studies have shown that this has had virtually no effect on the indigenous gene pools (Hansen et al 1993;Hansen 2002). LIL has been subject to some stocking in the 1980s and the early 1990s with trout of same origin as those stocked in KAR, but as natural reproduction in the river has always been high, we assume that this has had limited effect on the indigenous gene pool.…”

“…1). A allele variant identical to the sAAT-1,2*116 allele (Ferguson, 1989) was found in populations from the western part of the Baltic Sea drainage: in Sweden (Allendorf et al, 1976;Jorde, 1994;Jansson et al, 1995;Jansson, 1996), Denmark (Krieg & Guyomard, 1985;Hansen et al, 1993;Largiader & Scholl, 1995), and Poland (Krieg & Guyomard, 1985;Luczynski et al, 2000). The allele is widely distributed along the Atlantic coast (Ferguson, 1989).…”

“…Electrophoresis was conducted by standard procedures using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis (see, e.g., FERGUSON 1980;HANSEN et al 1993 Sod). Mpi) was analysed in only a few flies of each species and thus not used in the procedures for estimating phylogenetic trees; however, it is mentioned in the discussion of diagnostic loci.…”
