Genetic control of the reactions of raspberry to black raspberry necrosis, raspberry leaf mottle and raspberry leaf spot viruses

Abstract: SUMMARY Black raspberry necrosis virus (BRNV) induces a severe apical necrosis in black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis) but fails to induce diagnostic symptoms in red raspberry. However, BRNV infection of F1, F2 and F3 hybrids from the cross black raspberry × red raspberry induced mosaic symptoms of varying intensity but no typical apical necrosis. In a survey of 28 red raspberry cultivars, a few developed severe angular chlorotic leaf spots when infected with raspberry leaf mottle virus and a few others did so… Show more

“…Our data presented here, despite its incompleteness, updates and greatly extends our previous knowledge of the infectibility with, and sensitivity to, viruses of recent UK Rirhus cultivars (Jones & Jennings, 1980;Jones & Badenoch, 1982;Jones er al., 1982: Barbara et al, 1984Jones, 1988Jones, , 1991. The responses of the range of raspberry cultivars tested allows us to draw some tentative comparisons of the patterns of infectibility and sensitivity of the cultivars derived from the two Rubus breeding centres in the UK, SCRI (1 1 cultivars) and HRI-East Malling (eight cultivars).…”

“…Plants were grafted with the following aphid-borne viruses using the cultures described previously. Black raspberry necrosis (BRNV, Jones & Roberts, 1977;Jones & Jennings, 1980). raspberry leaf mottle (RLMV), raspberry leaf spot (RLSV) (Jones & Jennings, 1980), raspberry vein chlorosis (RVCV, Jones, Roberts & Murant, 1974) and rubus yellow net (RYNV, Jones & Roberts, 1976).…”
