“…Clustering of various CMLV isolates in three distinct clusters from various regions of the globe may indicate migration and/or circulation of different CMLV strains. CMLV‐Syria, a strain from Middle‐East showed clustering with African CMLV strains (Ethiopian and Somalian CMLV strains) as reported earlier also (Gelaye et al., ). CMLV strains showed more genetic relatedness to VARV and TATV than to other OPVs as expected and reported (Balamurugan et al., , ).…”

“…On analysis, a deletion of seven nucleotides was found at C‐terminus in Indian CMLV strains, similar to CMLV‐M96. This deletion caused a frameshift in amino acid sequence resulting into translated proteins of 319 aa length, whereas Middle‐East CMLV strains and African CMLV strains translate HA proteins of 315 aa length due to stop codon as reported earlier (Gelaye et al., ). HA gene of CMLV‐Bik06 strain from India reported previously (Nagarajan et al., ) also showed similar deletion, but it was partial sequence due to designing of primers primarily based on CMLV‐Syria as reported.…”

“…Based on a previous study, CCEV is most likely a subclade of PCPV which has adapted to camels as they are genetically closely related 17 . Our sequence analysis data showed all the isolates of CCEV in this study clustered closely with PCPV 45 , thus, we considered isolates of CCEV genotyped as PCPV.…”

“…Recent studies published after the completion of this manuscript compared a large number of samples using the HA and B2L genes [ 28 ] and the C18L gene [ 13 ], which were not studied here. The completion of the full genome sequence of the newly isolated subtype (work in progress) will allow for a better comparison, and will also determine its similarity to other studied isolates.…”
