The aim of this study was to estimate the genetic diversity in 74 RR soybean cultivars from different Brazilian breeding programs. Analyzes were based on multivariate statistical techniques from phenotypic characteristics and microsatellite molecular markers (SSR). Ten agronomic traits were used in the analysis of the Euclidean distance, Tocher's clustering, UPGMA clustering and principal component analysis. Eighty-six of 100 SSR primer-pairs studied were selected based on their polymorphism information content, and analyzed using Jaccard Coefficient and UPGMA clustering method. The cultivars were clustered into seven groups according to the UPGMA and Tocher's methods, based on agronomic traits, while molecular analysis identified six groups. The phenotypic distances ranged from 0.46 to 9.79 and the dissimilarity measurements, based on SSR molecular markers, ranged from 0.07 to 0.73. Both results from agronomic traits and molecular markers showed that there is genetic variability among the RR cultivars and that the Monsanto breeding program has the most divergent germplasm. The analyzed agronomic traits and the chosen SSR markers were effective in assessing the genetic diversity among genotypes, besides proving to be useful for characterizing genetic variability of soybean germplasm.

Future climatic scenarios can influence crop yield levels and induce hunger if no actions are taken. In this study, we evaluated the effect of increased temperature and CO 2 concentration on soybean yield components and biomass partitioning, that ultimately determine the crops productivity. This is conducted for two soybean genotypes that differ in their canopy and life cycles. Experiments were set as follows: a) T1 -ambient temperature and 390 molCO 2 •mol -1 , b) T2 -ambient air temperature +2.7 o C and ambient CO2, and c) T3 -ambient air temperature + 2.7 o C and 750 molCO 2 •mol -1 . Results indicate that soybean under elevated CO 2 and temperature (T3), were taller and grains weighed more than under the ambient conditions in both cultivars types. However, yield has not increased substantially due to reductions in the ratio of number of branch/plant, pods/branch and grains/branch which lead also to a lesser number of total pods and grains per plant. The increase of temperature favored the number of pods and grains on branches in the modern type cultivar, and on racemes in the old cultivar. This results in more yield in both cultivars versus plants grown in the current ambient, and higher CO 2 concentration plus temperature. In both cultivars, the pods and grains partition were higher on the ontogenically oldest four branches and racemes, with decrease in the other upper ones. In addition, the biomass allocation in vegetative tissues was higher than reproductive biomass, with intensity cultivar dependent. We concluded that in future the yield could be limited by reduction of the numbers of branches and racemes in plant, and by alteration at source-sink relation, thus, indicating that changes in canopy architecture are needed to better take advantage of the increasing concentration of CO 2 .

RESUMO -O objetivo do presente trabalho foi analisar a diversidade genética e o desempenho agronômico de um grupo de linhagens avançadas e superiores de soja, oriundas de cruzamentos biparentais, quádruplos e óctuplos, para identificar futuras combinações superiores e promissoras. O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental da Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho", Campus de Jaboticabal, São Paulo. Os caracteres avaliados foram: número de dias para floração, altura da planta na floração, número de dias para maturidade, altura da planta na maturidade, altura de inserção da primeira vagem, número de ramos, número de vagens por planta, valor agronômico, acamamento, peso de cem sementes e produtividade de grãos. Para o cálculo das distâncias fenotípicas foi utilizada a distância generalizada de Mahalanobis e a contribuição relativa de cada caráter. Dentre os genótipos analisados, 19 linhagens obtiveram altos rendimentos, sendo superiores às testemunhas (V-max, CD 216, CD 219 e Conquista). A maior distância encontrada foi entre as linhagens JAB 41 e JAB 17 (279,81), seguidas por JAB 40 e JAB 17 (261,38) e entre JAB 40 e JAB 22 (255,46). Verificou-se a formação de seis grupos pelo agrupamento de Ward, indicando a presença de variabilidade genética entre as linhagens avaliadas. O aumento do número de genitores não foi determinante para o aumento da diversidade genética entre as linhagens, bem como não foi o fator responsável pelo agrupamento ou não dos genótipos avaliados. ABSTRACT -The aim of this study was to analyse the genetic diversity and agronomic performance of a group of advanced and superior strains of soybean, derived from biparental, four-way and eight-way crosses, in order to identify future promising and superior combinations. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area of the Paulista State University, Júlio de Mesquita Filho, Jaboticabal Campus, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The characteristics under evaluation were: number of days to flowering, plant height at flowering, number of days to maturity, plant height at maturity, height of the first pod, number of branches, number of pods per plant, agronomic value, lodging, one hundred seed weight and seed yield. , The Mahalanobis distance and the relative contribution of each characteristic were used to calculate the phenotypic distances. Among the genotypes analysed, 19 strains displayed high productivity, being superior to the controls (V-max, CD 216, CD 219 and Conquista). The greatest distance found was between strains JAB 41 and JAB 17 (279.81), followed by JAB 40 and JAB 17 (261.38) and between JAB 40 and JAB 22 (255.46). There were six groups formed using the Ward method, indicating the presence of genetic variability among the tested strains. Increasing the number of parents had no effect on the increase in genetic diversity between the strains, and was not the factor responsible for the grouping or not of the genotypes under test.
