“…The typical necropsy lesion is characterized by accumulation of clear, straw-colored fluid in the pericardial sac, as well as multifocal areas of necrosis in liver and hepatitis [8]. Additionally, HHS has been reported in pigeons [10], quails [11], ducks [12], and mandarin ducks [13]. The prevalence of HHS in China was relatively low with only sporadic outbreaks before 2015.…”

“…These strains shared nearly 100% genomic sequence identity with the CH-GD-12-2014 strain in the hexon, fiber-1 , and fiber-2 proteins. Contrastingly, all four isolates shared only 86.9% amino acid sequence identity in the Hexon with DAdV-2 GR ( Yin et al, 2018 ; Shen et al, 2019 ). These data suggested that CH-GD-12-2014, along with the FJGT01, AHAQ13, ZJJH07, and GDMM10 strains, should be classified under DAdV-3.…”

“…As per the classification by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses ( ICTV ), DAdVs comprise DAdV-1 (duck adenovirus A) in the genus Atadenovirus and DAdV-2 (duck aviadenovirus B) in the genus Aviadenovirus. DAdV-1 infections are usually asymptomatic in waterfowls as natural hosts ( Hollmén et al, 2003 ; Brash et al, 2009 ; Shen et al, 2019 ). In 2014, the complete genome of DAdV-2 strain GR was sequenced by Ana Marek and was proposed as a new member of the genus Aviadenovirus, which was first isolated from Muscovy ducks in France in 1982 ( Marek et al, 2014 ; Huang et al, 2020 ).…”

“…In addition to 3-5-week-old broilers, other avian species, including hens, ducks, pigeons, and quails, could also be infected by FAdV on some occasions [22]. The mortality of this disease could reach up to 80% of susceptible chickens in China [23]. Thus, HHS remains a severe threat to the stakeholders.…”
