Genetic associations in the detection of QTLs for wheat spike-related traits

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of wheat genotypes, to detect significant and stable genetic associations, as well as to evaluate the efficiency of statistical models to identify chromosome regions responsible for the expression of spike-related traits. Eight important spike characteristics were measured during five growing seasons in Serbia. A set of 30 microsatellite markers positioned near important agronomic loci was used to evaluate genetic diversit… Show more

“…PIC value which ensures an information in about discriminating power of a marker [ 35 ] ranged from 0.5 (Xgwm312) to 0.86 (WMC177), with a mean of 0.67. This mean PIC value is higher than those were reported for Indian emmer wheat accessions [ 36 ], Ethiopian emmer landraces [ 37 ] and Italian emmer wheat accessions [ 38 ], but lower than the value of 0.68 reported by [ 39 ] for 283 of wheat accessions. The allele number of per loci was ranged from 6 (Xgwm135 and Xgwm312) to 16 (WMC177).We observed that the average number of alleles per locus was 9.…”

“…Gene mapping provides the identification of major genes and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with phenotypic variation, enabling better insight into the genetic control of agronomically important traits and suppling fundamental information for MAS, gene cloning, and genome structure studies (Brbaklić et al, 2015;Dimitrijevic and Horn, 2018;Gupta et al, 2019;Trkulja et al, 2019). The process relies on the comprehensive genotyping and phenotyping of various genetic materials, followed by appropriate statistical analysis for the detection of genes and QTLs.…”
