Genetic association between interluekin-4 rs2243250 polymorphism and gastric cancer susceptibility: evidence based on a meta-analysis

Abstract: PurposeNumerous studies have suggested that the interleukin-4 (IL-4) rs2243250 polymorphism is associated with gastric cancer susceptibility. However, the results were inconsistent. Hence, we carried out a meta-analysis to confirm the conclusion.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, CBM, CNKI, and Wanfang Data to identify relevant studies up to August 20, 2015. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to estimate the association between IL-4 rs2243250 polymorphism and gastric cancer susceptibili… Show more

“…These data coincide with those reported in other studies, where the expression of the − 592 (A/C) and − 819 (T/C) variants was very similar between Chinese patients with advanced gastric cancer and the healthy population, without influence, even in their prognosis [ 33 ], which does not detract from their clinical relevance, given that in other pathologies, such as squamous intraepithelial cervical lesions and lung cancer, they have been positively associated [ 39 , 40 ] but not so for − 1082 (G/A). The data is also consistent with that reported by Zhang et al [ 41 ] and recently by Liu et al [ 42 ] with respect to evidence of a relationship between IL-4 -590C/T (rs2243250) SNP and gastric cancer, more likely circumscribed to Asian population.…”

“…We estimated the associations between polymorphisms and risk of prostate cancer under five genetic models (Yan et al, 2014 ; Zeng et al, 2014a , b ; Weng et al, 2015 , 2016 ; Leng et al, 2016 ; Zhang et al, 2016 ). The effects were measured using ORs and the corresponding 95% CIs.…”

“…Some authors did not find any significant associations between SNPs of IL-4/IL-13 or their receptors and GC or CRC [ 163 , 164 ]. In addition, the results of available meta-analysis and previous systemic analysis were separately summarized in Table 2 [ 163 , 164 , 165 , 166 , 167 , 168 , 169 , 170 , 171 , 172 , 173 , 174 ].…”
