Genetic and morphological diversity in Stachys lavandulifolia (Lamiaceae) populations

Abstract: Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl. (Lamiaceae) is an important medicinal plant that grows in different parts of Iran and forms many geographical populations. We have no information on its population genetic structure, genetic diversity, and morphological variability in Iran. Therefore, we planned a genetic and morphological investigation in St. lavandulifolia geographical populations in Iran. The obtained data are important for conservation and germplasm management of this medicinal plant species. Seventy-four plant… Show more

“…For grouping of the studied populations, we used Nei's genetic distance (Weising 2005, Freeland et al 2011. Neighbor Joining (NJ) clustering and principal coordinate analyses (PCoA) were performed after 100 times bootstrapping/ permutations (Sheidai et al 2016.…”

“…Two approaches were used to determine genetic differentiation of the studied populations, 1 -AMOVA (Analysis of molecular variance) (with 1000 permutations) as implemented in GenAlex 6.4 (Peakall & Smouse 2006), and 2 -Nei's Gst analysis of GenoDive ver. 2 (2013) (Meirmans & Van tienderen 2004, Sheidai et al 2016. The new genetic differentiation parameters like G'st_est = standardized measure of genetic differentiation (Hedrick 2005), and D_ est = Jost measure of differentiation (Jost 2008), were also determined.…”

“…ISSR molecular technique has been successfully used for investigation of infraspecific variations in different genera in Lamiaceae such as Stachys (Sheidai et al 2016), Lallemantia (Koohdar et al 2016) or other Families such as Linaceae (Sheidai et al 2014). Therefore, we decided to use the molecular approach for investigation of infraspecific variations between Z. capitata subspecies.…”

“…Population genetic study is an essential scientific approach for studying medicinal plants, as it produces data on genetic variability, genetic structure, gene flow versus genetic fragmentation of these plants (SHEIDAI et al, 2016). It also can identify the molecular markers and genetic loci that can differentiate geographical populations and also suggest potential gene pools available (SHEIDAI et al, 2018).…”
