“…A second study using SSRs showed that the A. strigosa accessions were 86% genetically similar, so this study may not be a true reflection of the genetic variability available in this species (Cabral et al 2013 ). The accessions proved to be very difficult to work with and very few introgression stocks could be produced (Aung et al 2010 ; Cabral et al 2011 ; Cabral and Park 2014 , 2016 ). Any attempt to introgress rust resistance from diploid or tetraploid Avena species to hexaploid oat, in the absence of transgenic approaches, will take at least 10 years to be of benefit to oat growers.…”
