“…These results are in line with previous studies that indicated a large genetic difference between Japanese wild boars and Ryukyu wild boars (Watanobe et al 1999). The Clawn miniature pig is an experimental animal breed raised from crossing among Gottingen, Chinese native, Landrace, and Large White pigs (Oishi et al 1991).…”

“…Clawn miniature pigs were originally developed in Japan by crossbreeding the F1 offspring of Göttingen Miniature × Ohmini and the F1 offspring of Landrace × Large White, and maintaining a closed colony for over 30 years. The genetic variability of the Clawn strain is the lowest of all the miniature strains including Göttingen, Ohmini and PitmanMoore [16]. Nine healthy 3-to 4-month-old Clawn miniature pigs (8.9 ± 1.2 kg) were purchased from Japan Farm Clawn Institute (Kagoshima, Japan).…”

“…Background data regarding body weight and hematological analysis of CLAWN miniature swine are available 9 , but comprehensive histopathological background data have not yet been accumulated. Availability of such a data set for the systemic organs would permit extensive examinations and allow for discussions on safety evaluations.…”
