Genetic Algorithm-Based Multi-Hop Routing to Improve the Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless sensor networks are known for their monitoring and tracking application-specific operations. These operations diversely demand improvement in existing strategies and their parameters. One key parameter is energy usage during operations. Energy plays a vital role in each application, as the wireless sensor networks lack battery lifetime and energy resources. So, there is a need for an optimized and efficient routing method with regard to energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. For multi-hop rou… Show more

“…While the DS approach consumed the second-least energy over extended time periods, it had the highest max-min average data rate. Authors in [25] employed the Genetic Algorithm (GA) to provide the best data operation routes and extend the life of wireless sensor networks by reducing energy consumption. The GA's performance was compared with that of TEEN algorithm.…”

“…The choice fell on the GA because it is the most used with CSM as shown above. Also, it has been widely used in the field of electrical engineering [40][41][42][43]. Figure 8 illustrates the graphs of the electric fields calculated by this method, by CSM-GA, and the measured values (the values are listed in Table II).…”

“…Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) has been introduced to provide solutions in challenging scenarios by increasing the reliability of spectrum sensing [7]. CRSN performance has been improved by grouping adjacent nodes into clusters using cluster routing protocols, inter-cluster relay, and intra-cluster aggregation using multi-hop data delivery [8][9]. Thus, the clustering routing protocol introduced for CRSNs has become a trending research topic.…”

“…CRSN assumes perfect spectrum sensing while designing cluster routing protocols. However, this assumption is suitable only for designing simple routing protocols that do not consider the original perceptual performance of CRSN nodes [9].…”
