Genetic admixture analysis in Prestice Black-Pied pigs

Abstract: Abstract. The Prestice Black-Pied pig (PC) is a genetic resource of the Czech Republic. Information about boar variability has been provided in preceding papers. The objective of this work was to compare genetic variability of boars and sows. A total of 21 microsatellite markers were used to study genetic diversity and population structure of 149 PC breeding animals. In this paper, current parameters of assessments of diversity in PC are listed. All loci were polymorphic, and a total of 167 alleles were observ… Show more

“…In 1992 the breed was included in the genetic resources and belongs to the National program of genetic resources, coordinated by European Regional Focal Point for Farm Animal Genetic Resources (Dostálová et al, 2012;Vrtková, 2015). PBP is suitable mainly for outdoor or organic breeding systems.…”

“…At the end of the 19th century, the local pig breeds (mostly, Yorkshire, Sussex, Berkshire, and Essex British breeds) were crossed with boars imported into the Bohemia territory [ 1 , 2 ]. Subsequently, pig breeds including Wessex Saddleback (in 1952), Pietrain (in 1966), Welsh (in 1985), and Landrace (in 1986) were also used in crossing of the PBP breed [ 3 ]. However, during the WWII, the first bottleneck effect on genetic variation of pigs was observed after the ban on breeding black-spotted breeds of pigs was tightened even when their breeding was secretly maintained.…”
