“…The limestone parent materials containing mica with a high magnesium content are natural ingredients for the development of vermiculite in the Tweed soil. These results are analogous to those published by Kanno et al (1965), who reported that soils derived from serpentine with neutral reaction and high base status and high Mg saturation had solum clay mineralogy dominated by antigorite and randomly interstratified chlorite -A1 vermiculite, Lag (1959) found that large quantities of vermiculite occurred in samples with an abundance of exchangeable magnesium in Rendzina soils of Norway. The clay weathering sequences found in the Methuen and Tweed soils do follow the sequences proposed by Jackson (1958).…”

“…The samples were generally from basic rocks which had been exposed to supergene conditions (Veniale and van der Marel, 1963;Kanno et al, 1965;Wildman et al, 1968Wildman et al, , 1971Ducloux et al, 1976;Garcia and Delgado, 1978;Wilson and Berrow, 1978;Istok and Harward, 1982;Proust, 1982) and diagenetic or metamorphic conditions (April, 1980;Curtis et al, 1985). Experimental transformations among these phases have also been reported Kodama,-1974, 1976;Senkayi et al, 1981).…”

“…and Japan (Kanno et al, 1965;Nagatsuka 1967; Sasaki et al 1968). However, the properties and genesis of soils de-veloped in the serpentinized deposits of Wolfe, M6gantic, and Frontenac counties, Province of Qu6bec, have not been studied nor described in soil survey reports.…”
