Generic revision and phylogeny of Microweiseinae (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

Abstract: The monophyly and phylogenetic relationships of the subfamily Microweiseinae were investigated. Twenty‐three in‐group taxa, representing all known genera of Microweiseinae (except for Microcapillata Gordon) were included in a cladistic analysis, based on 45 adult morphological characters. The parsimony analysis of the resulting data matrix supported the monophyly of Microweiseinae, Carinodulini, Serangiini and Microweiseini (inclusive of Sukunahikonini). The recognition of Sukunahikonini renders Microweiseini … Show more

“…9). The subfamily Microweiseinae currently includes three tribes: Carinodulini, Microweiseini (including Sukunahikonini) and Serangiini (Escalona &Ślipiński, 2012). Within Microweiseinae the anatomically bizarre Carinodulinka (Carinodulini) was recovered as the earliest diverging lineage, corroborating the results of Seago et al (2011).…”

“…Within Coccinellidae, to date the phylogeny of Microweiseinae, Epilachnini and Coccinellini have been the subject of recent comprehensive research (Escalona &Ślipiński, 2012;Szawaryn et al, 2015;Escalona et al, 2017), while the evolutionary history and systematics of Chilocorini remain poorly studied. Despite the inclusion of Chilocorini in the high-level relationships study of Coccinellidae, only relatively few taxa from this tribe were sampled in various studies (Giorgi et al, 2009;Aruggoda et al, 2010;Magro et al, 2010;Seago et al, 2011).…”

“…Ślipiński (2007) proposed a two subfamily system with Microweiseinae and Coccinellinae, merging Sticholotidini into an expanded concept of Coccinellinae (Escalona and Ślipiński 2012). The tribe Sticholotidini was defined by Gordon (1977) and Miyatake (1994).…”
