Generic On-Board Decision Support System Framework for Marine Operations

Abstract: In this work, we present a generic framework for designing on-board decision support systems for marine operations. We discuss different technologies and methods for obtaining and analysing data and providing relevant information to on-board personnel. In particular, we focus on combining and integrating simulators with measurements, both live and stored historical data, in on-board systems for both pre-operational planning and live situation observers that might have predictive functionalities. To exemplify, … Show more

“…This library use the elastic Baumgarte stabilization method to avoid singularities and to enable explicit formulations of constraint forces which can be solved by any numerical integrator. Moreover, this article unifies the preliminary results presented in [21,22] and provides a novel discussion of common constraints needed to model slender, flexible marine structures. Hence, the work presented in this article contributes towards robust, modular and real-time capable simulation models of various cable configurations, for the purpose of analyzing marine operations and for designing digital twins for various flexible and slender equipment used in different marine operations.…”

“…( 5) is that the mass matrix is invertible, avoiding numerical errors due to singularities. Since this cannot be guaranteed in a real-time applicable, general simulation model involving cables where iterative matrix inversion procedures are often applied, an elastic version of the Baumgarte stabilization is used [22,21], assuring a positive definite inertia matrix. This changes the constraint dynamics given in Eq.…”

“…This distribution depended on the variability of fishing operations during the year. 39 The Ratatosk framework 40 is used for integrating all sensors of interest. Ratatosk has been developed to facilitate simpler data integration and communication on fishing vessels.…”

“…A downside of this development is that the operation of these vessels has become more complex, making it difficult sometimes to take advantage of the possibilities within the systems. The crew is also often engaged in fishing operations, where management of a power plant is not a priority, making decision support systems important [2]. Collecting extensive energy performance of ships and delivering advice based on big data technology is therefore a focus for one of the small pelagic fisheries pilots.…”
