Generator Protection Based on Fast Frequency and Phase Measurement

Abstract

The existing generator protection systems employ complex algorithms that require substantial memory and substantial computing power. To overcome these challenges, this paper presents an efficient, reliable, and computationally less intensive generator protection method focused on swiftly measuring generator frequency and phase. This approach has been assessed within a system comprising a synchronous generator powering a DC load. The paper provides a detailed model of the synchronous generator and evaluates the influence of a rectifier, comparing it with a PLL-based Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU).
