The article reflects on the history of the Chilean Society of Radiology after 80 years of existence and raises several considerations for the future of the specialty. It highlights the growth of imaging technology in Chile, improving access to diagnostic tests, nevertheless, therapeutic access remains limited in some regions. The importance of education in radiology is raised, not only to train new radiologists, but also to train clinicians in the proper use of imaging tests. It is suggested to strengthen the efforts of radiology to get involved in Public Health and consumer advocacy. The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in radiology and its potential is mentioned. Provocative proposals for the future of radiology such as rethinking the way radiology reports are made are mentioned. The importance of caring for the well-being of radiologists and promoting integrity and teamwork is also highlighted. In general, the article reflects on the challenges and opportunities facing radiology in Chile, and proposes ideas to improve practice and prepare for the future.
