Generation of Phase-Only Holograms Based on Aliasing Reuse and Application in Holographic See-Through Display System

Abstract: In the point-based method, the aliasing phenomenon in the hologram plane is usually considered as a harmful phenomenon because it will degrade the reconstructed image quality. In this paper, the advantage of the aliasing phenomenon is employed to improve the reconstructed image quality of the phase-only hologram. Through analysis of the principle of this phenomenon, we proposed a method to improve the reconstructed image quality of the phase-only hologram. By controlling the strength of the aliasing, the ampli… Show more

“…olographic display technology has been widely used in the research of augmented reality (AR) and near-eye displays (NED) in recent years [1], [2]. Since the spatial light modulator (SLM) can only modulate amplitude or phase, the encoding methods of computer-generated hologram (CGH) can be divided into amplitude-type and phase-type.…”

“…One such algorithm is the Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) [28], which employs high-speed switching and display of different holograms by using SLMs to reconstruct holograms. Another algorithm, which can generate reconstructed images in relatively high quality, is the Complementary Phase-Only Holograms algorithm [29,30]. However, these algorithms come with challenges such as high computational complexity and the requirement for high-performance SLMs.…”
