Generation of Identical Noncircular Pitch Curves

Abstract: In this paper the theory and algorithm for generating pairs of identical noncircular conjugate pitch curves are presented. A set of criteria for two identical rigid bodies engaging in conjugate rolling motion is established. Based on these criteria, an algorithm is developed, which can be used to design this type of rolling pairs with almost unlimited profile varieties and any number of lobes. Geometrical conditions for having C1 (or slope) continuity at the intersections of tips and roots of lobe profiles are… Show more

“…A common challenge in the design of mechanical systems is the kinematic synthesis of a mechanism in order to satisfy a set of motion characteristics [4]. Frequent requirements are to guide a rigid body through a series of specified positions and orientations (rigid body guidance), to force a coupler point to move along a prescribed trajectory (path generation), or to cause an output member to move according to a specific function of the input motion (function generation) [8].…”

“…It not only has the advantages of gear transmission, but also can replace the traditional cam mechanism or linkage mechanism connecting rod variable speed than structure. common noncircular gear pair with close convex pitch curve has applied in many fields, such as papermaking machinery, textile machinery, cigarette machine, reciprocating conveyor instrumentation, some pumps and flow meter [1][2][3][4][5][6] .…”
