Generation of excitedKbands in heavy nuclei

Abstract: It is known that coupling an intrinsic excitation of integer spin and positive parity I + to a rotor having a degenerate set of states L π = 0 + , 2 + , 4 + , . . . , generates a series of K bands. A given value of I + gives rise to several bands labeled by K + = 0 + , 1 + , 2 + , . . . , I + , that is, a total of (I + 1) such bands, in the spectrum of the combined system. We discuss how a binary cluster model of an excited core orbited by a spinless cluster can approximate these conditions. A crucial point is… Show more

“…These results imply absolutely no dependence on Z d Z e and very weak dependence on A e . The preformation probabilities found for the range of clusters considered here are ≈ 10 −2 to 10 −3 which tend to disagree with the results of a potential model with preformed clusters [21,22,23]. It is interesting to see in Table I that for α cluster the agreement is excellent.…”

“…4 shows a schematic view of the Double Chooz detector [35]. The central part (i) is the neutrino target which consists of a Gadolinium (Gd)-loaded liquid scintillator [36], with a 10 m 3 volume, contained in an acrylic vessel. The second liquid layer (ii) is Gd-free liquid scintillator nicknamed γ-catcher, which detects γ-rays escaping from the target region.…”
