Generation and photocatalytic activities of Bi@Bi2O3 microspheres

Abstract: Composite Bi@Bi 2 O 3 microspheres have been synthesized via a microwave-assisted solvothermal route. The Bi@Bi 2 O 3 microspheres had a narrow size distribution in the range 1.2-2.8 mm. Glucose was selected as the reductant, BiCl 3 as the bismuth source, and ethylene glycol (EG) as the solvent in the synthesis system. The as-synthesized sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron micr… Show more

“…In addition, it can be observed that the intensity of the PL emission follows the order: MIL-100(Fe) > Au@MIL-100(Fe) > Pd@MIL-100(Fe) > Pt@MIL-100(Fe). A lower PL intensity is generally indicative of a lower recombination rate of photogenerated charge carriers [39][40][41]. Thus, we can conclude that the chargeseparation efficiency follows the order: Pt@MIL-100(Fe) > Pd@MIL-100(Fe) > Au@MIL-100(Fe) > MIL-100(Fe), which is consistent with the MO degradation experiment results.…”

“…The intrinsic polarizability induced by the Bi 3+ 6s 2 lone pair of electrons favors the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The transfer of these charge carriers makes bismuth a good photocatalyst in the visible region [25]. A significant improvement in the photocatalytic activity of ␣-Bi 2 O 3 was observed by composite formation with ZnO and NiO [26][27][28].…”

“…5a. Under visible-light irradiation ( > 420 nm), the self-degradation of the used RhB can be negligible [34]. It can be seen that BVO(50%)/BWO exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity.…”
