Generating orbital angular momentum based on circular antenna array with filtering characteristic

Abstract: The circular antenna array with filtering characteristic for orbital angular momentum's (OAM) generation is proposed in the paper. An antenna unit consisting of one patch with V-shape slots, two shorting pins and defected ground structures is firstly designed, simulated, and measured. And the simulated and experimental results demonstrate that the designed antenna has a great filtering respond with a flat gain about 5 dB from 5.1 to 5.5 GHz.The filtering units are then used to form an eight-unit circular filte… Show more

“…Hence, the aperture efficiency of the proposed TA is better than the TAs in comparison. In addition, the PCB based TAs in [42,43] can realize gain full-metal 3D TA, due to the fact that the multi-order power divider and phase delay line result in a larger loss. The loss will be multiple accrual, especially for the high-gain array with a large aperture size.…”

“…To achieve OAM beams with gain-filtering response, several conventional OAM antenna designs are combined with various filters. In [42,43], two types of gain-filtering antenna are used as the units of a circular array. The antenna arrays can achieve OAM beams with around −15.0 dB rejection level.…”

“…OAM is carried by EM waves, which have the helical phase factor of exp (ilϕ), where l is the OAM mode number and ϕ is the transverse azimuthal angle [13]. For SAM, the rotation of the E and H fields is around the main beam axis.…”
