Generating Multidimensional Social Network to Simulate the Propagation of Information

Abstract: Social simulation implies two preconditions: determining a population and simulate the information diffusion within it. A population represents a group of interconnected individuals sharing information. In this paper, the population we generate is detailed by socio-cultural features, specifically the way that people tend to link together. To this end, the use of a social network is a little bit restrictive: people are linked by only one relationship. Multidimensional Social Networks (MSN) model 3D social netwo… Show more

“…A network or graph represents all relations between individuals. The algorithms used to generate the population taking into account the socio-cultural characteristics and several type of links between individuals are discussed by Forestier et al 6 We opt for the storage of information in a database so that each experiment is easily accessible and re-playable. The repository contains all the models available to execute the simulations, that is, all the servers and proxies that are used by the Executive model to produce the simulation model.…”

“…5 In the context of this project, we developed a tool used to generate an artificial population (creating the nodes and the network) based on the actual socio-demographic data and depending on the study specification level. 6 Modeling population needs understanding of the specific norms and ways the society organizes itself. As instance, an Eastern European society does not have the same features as an Asian, Western Europe, or African one.…”

“…Simulation is used to show that the topology of the network can affect the result of the diffusion process. In more details, a population of 350 agents has been generated according to social science population structure rules described in [23] and connected on three layers: family, friends and neighbors. These three layers represent the primary groups defined in [24].…”
