Flapping-fin unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) propulsion systems provide high maneuverability for naval tasks such as surveillance and terrain exploration. Recent work has explored the use of time-series neural network surrogate models to predict thrust from vehicle design and fin kinematics. We develop a search-based inverse model that leverages a kinematics-to-thrust neural network model for control system design. Our inverse model finds a set of fin kinematics with the multi-objective goal of reaching a target thrust and creating a smooth kinematic transition between flapping cycles. We demonstrate how a control system integrating this inverse model can make online, cycle-to-cycle adjustments to prioritize different system objectives.

Optimization Based on Pattern Search Algorithm Applied to pH Non-Linear Control: Application to Alkalinization Process of Sugar Juice

In this paper, an approach for the tuning of a model-based non-linear predictive control (NMPC) is presented. The proposed control uses the pattern search optimization algorithm (PSM), which is applied to the pH non-linear control in the alkalinization process of sugar juice. First, the model identification is made using the Takagi Sugeno T-S fuzzy inference systems with multidimensional fuzzy sets; the next step is the controller parameters tuning. The PSM algorithm is used in both cases. The proposed approach allows the minimization of model uncertainty and decreases, in the response, the error in a steady state when compared with other authors who perform the same procedure but apply other optimization algorithms. The results show an improvement in the steady-state error in the plant response.

A Comprehensive Review on a PV Based System to Harvest Maximum Power

In this paper, a comprehensive review of essential components of the PV (Photovoltaic) system is elaborated, and their comparative unique features are discussed. The paper describes hardware design (power converters topologies specifically) employed in PV based energy generation systems to harvest maximum power from the available energy source. In this study, thirty different Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques have been critically analyzed and their response with respect to partial shading condition has been discussed. It is very difficult to say which technique is best as one must consider various factors and parameters while selecting a technique such as application, convergence speed, accuracy, efficiency, system reliability, and cost and performance of available hardware. Aiming at the complexity, hardware implementation, tracking speed, steady-state accuracy, or global maximum detection of the algorithm, an MPPT algorithm based on a rule table is proposed. In addition, the MPPT of a PV system based on bio inspired techniques is considered. The bio inspired algorithms and its application in PV system are compared for the authenticity of the review, and six different MPPT techniques are implemented on PV systems. A comparative analysis is made based on the results of four different cases of irradiance.
