Generalized hard x-ray detection model for microchannel plate detectors

Abstract: A generalized hard x-ray detection model for microchannel plate (MCP) detectors has been developed. This model includes all geometrical and compositional parameters of an MCP and the energy of a detected x-ray. An analytical investigation and numerical calculation of the detection efficiency were carried out; data obtained were compared with experimental results. A square and hexagonal channel MCP were considered in addition to a traditional circular channel MCP. Moreover, it is shown that the first ones have … Show more

“…Computer simulation could considerably reduce the amount of experimental measurements for optimization purposes. A substantial experience has been accumulated to date in simulation of such detector characteristics as MCP gain, 7 quantum efficiency, 8,9 thermal behavior, 10 temporal characteristics, 11 etc. However, the development of a feasible model for the charge cloud propagation has apparently been impeded by such factors as the statistical nature of the MCP output and the self-consistency of the electric field in the electron cloud.…”

“…As well single AAO MCP have very small detection efficiency for the gamma with energies higher than 100 keV a calorimeter for registration of gamma radiation with energy up to 1 MeV should present a special design (see, for LAPP -9 Chemin de Bellevue -BP 110 F-74941 Annecy-le-Vieux CEDEX -FRANCE Tel : (33) (0) 4 50 09 16 00 --Fax : (33) (0) 4 50 27 94 95 example, ref. [8,9]). A series of GEANT4 simulations were carried out to estimate a detection efficiency of single MCP as well as sandwiches of three MCP and absorbers as shown in Fig.…”
