Generalized DFT-s-OFDM Waveforms Without Cyclic Prefix

Abstract: This paper deals with generalized discrete Fourier transform-spread-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (G-DFT-s-OFDM) waveforms, which replace the cyclic prefix of traditional OFDM/DFT-s-OFDM with an internal guard period. Such waveforms feature significant benefits in terms of flexibility, spectral containment, and low peak-to-average power ratio. Aspects related to reference sequence design and mapping for channel estimation are thoroughly addressed, and a new estimator for the specific zero-tail DFT… Show more

“…Certain significant improvements gets noticed with the introduction of zero-tail DFT spread OFDM, an internal guard band variant of DFT-S-OFDM. [16][17][18][19][20] Firstly, low zero power head as well as tail entity guarantee a significant out-of-band (OOBE) radiation minimization. Secondly, this enhances smooth and uninterrupted transition between neighboring symbols with different characteristics resulting in harmonious co-existence.…”

“…This section, hybrid PAPR reduction technique IMBO based PTS with tone reservation-clipping techniques have been implemented on zero-tail DFT-spread-OFDM system. In this study, ZT DFT-S-OFDM approach [17][18][19][20] is implemented a substitute for supplementary OFDM techniques like UW OFDM, F-OFDM, and UFMC etc with possible benefits of…”

“…The subcarrier orthogonality is lost and the system performance is degraded by the resulting inter-carrier interference (ICI) [11], [13]. This problem is more serious for OFDM systems without CP [14], [15] or with insufficient CP [16], [17]. The ICI should be mitigated to improve the system performance.…”

“…Practically, in most cases of the AF-type cooperative network, CSI cannot be acquired perfectly at the destination nodes, and thus we require additional pilot symbols to achieve precise channel estimation. In addition, since there is a long effective time delay in a source-relay-destination channel, the cyclic prefix (CP) for combating the intersymbol interference (ISI) should be further extended [6,7]. These factors obviously degrade the spectrum efficiency of the considered system.…”
