General Synthesis of Mesoporous Spheres of Metal Oxides and Phosphates

Abstract: Monodisperse and high-surface-area mesoporous inorganic spheres of various compositions including metal oxides, mixed oxides, and metal phosphates are prepared by templating mesoporous carbon spheres which are replicated from spherical mesoporous silica. Due to the rigid and thermally stable framework of carbon template, the crystalline phases of the obtained metal oxide spheres can be readily tailored by controlling crystalline temperatures. Moreover, the sphere morphologies can be changed from solid structur… Show more

“…The templates are divided into hard templates and soft templates. Hard templates usually include silica [12], anodic aluminum oxide [13][14][15] and mesoporous carbon [16][17][18][19][20]. The soft templates have received more attention over the last decade for the generation of nanostructured materials [21,22], because they are more versatile and therefore more advantageous than hard templates.…”

“…[8,9] Mesoporous carbons were also used for the first time as templates for the synthesis of Al 2 O 3 , TiO 2 , and ZrO 2 mesoporous oxides. [10] There are also some reports concerning periodic nanostructured non-oxide ceramics: ordered macroporous SiC was obtained from a silica template, [11] microporous GaN was synthesized by ammonolysis of Ga 2 (NMe 2 ) 6 in the presence of aliphatic amines, [12] and mesoporous SiC has been prepared by a chemical vapor infiltration method in MCM-48 or SBA-15 silica. [13] Boron nitride has some interesting physical and chemical properties (good thermal conductivity, chemical durability and better stability towards oxidation than carbon).…”

“…XRD peaks can be well indexed to -Fe 2 O 3 crystals and rhombohedral phase with JCPDS card number 33-0664. Sharp, strong, and well-resolved diffraction peaks reveal the phase purity and crystalline structure of as-prepared nanomaterial [18,19]. FTIR spectrum analysis of as-synthesized NPs was done for further confirmation.…”
