General specifications for silicon semiconductors for use in radiation dosimetry

Abstract: Silicon semiconductor detectors used in radiation dosimetry have different properties, just as e.g. ionisation chambers, affecting the interaction of radiation with matter in the vicinity of the sensitive volume of the detector, e.g. wall materials, and also the collection of the charges liberated in the detector by the radiation. The charge collection depends on impurities, lattice imperfections and other properties of the semiconductor crystal. In this paper the relevant parameters of a silicon semiconductor… Show more

“…This study evidenced a decrease of about 60% from the initial current for the first 100 kGy dose received for both diodes. This drop is expected once the sensitivity of the diodes falls with the radiation dose [8]. On the other hand, after 500 kGy of exposure, the current signals of the EPI diodes maintain stable.…”

“…In addition to the directional dependence, some reports also indicated long-term irreversible radiation damage that changes the sensitivity of diodes over time. [55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68] TLD dosimetry has been used since the 1970s to quantify megavoltage x-ray dosimetry.…”
