General bounds on non-standard neutrino interactions

Abstract: We derive model-independent bounds on production and detection non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI). We find that the constraints for NSI parameters are around O(10 −2 ) to O(10 −1 ).Furthermore, we review and update the constraints on matter NSI. We conclude that the bounds on production and detection NSI are generally one order of magnitude stronger than their matter counterparts. * biggio@mppmu.mpg.de †

“…As these NSIs modify the interactions with matter from the Standard Model interactions the effective mass matrix for the neutrinos are changed and as such there will be change in the oscillation probability of different flavor of neutrinos. Although NSIs could be present at the source of neutrinos, during the propagation of neutrinos and also during detection of neutrinos [52] but as those effects are expected to be smaller at the source and detector due to their stringent constraints [21,53], we consider the NSI effect during the propagation of neutrinos only.…”

“…Bounds coming from loop effect have been used for model dependent bounds. However, model independent bounds are less stringent and could be larger than the model dependent bounds by several orders and have been discussed in [21,53]. Considering recent results from experiments in IceCube-79 and…”

“…Model-independent experimental constraints on the ε s,d,m αβ range from 10 −4 to O(1) [16,[159][160][161][162], while model-dependent limits are often much tighter [163,164] since, in concrete models, NSI in the neutrino sector are usually accompanied by non-standard effects in the charged-lepton sector that are constrained, for example, by rare decay searches or measurements of the weak mixing angle.…”
