Abstract: Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) is a prohormone of various neuropeptides, including corticotropin, ␣-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (␣-MSH), and ␤-endorphin (␤-EP). POMC neuropeptides are potent inflammation inhibitors and immunosuppressants and may exert opposite influences during tumorigenesis.
