“…Polymorphism of the Y chromosome of Tuvans was previously studied [7,13] without taking into account the tribal structure. Genetic studies of polymorphism of the Y chromosome were carried out only for a limited number of Tuvan clans (Mongush, Oorzhak, Kol, Oyun and Khertek) [14,15], and there was a need for a deeper genetic study of Tuvan clans. For this reason, the aim of this study is to analyze the tribal structure of Tuvans by Y-chromosome markers and to resolve the question: how much is the genetic architecture of the gene pool of Tuvans structured by tribal (clans) or administrative-territorial (kozhuuns) organization.…”

“…Therefore, further multidisciplinary studies are needed to solve the origin of Tuvan families, in which genetics and humanities must work together. The molecular genealogy of the Y chromosome for tribal groups is rather successfully used in solving this problem, as was done previously for the Tuvan clans: Mongush, Oorzhak, Kol, Oyun, and Khertek [14,15]. In further studies of the Tuvan clans, it is necessary to evaluate how pronounced the founder effect is and to calculate the genetic proximity between the members of the clan using STR markers and complete Y-chromosome sequencing, comparing genealogical, ethnographic, historical, and linguistic data.…”
