Gene expression profiling of normal thyroid tissue from patients with thyroid carcinoma

Abstract: Gene expression profiling (GEP) of normal thyroid tissue from 43 patients with thyroid carcinoma, 6 with thyroid adenoma, 42 with multinodular goiter, and 6 with Graves-Basedow disease was carried out with the aim of achieving a better understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying the role of normal cells surrounding the tumor in the thyroid cancer progression. Unsupervised and supervised analyses were performed to compare samples from neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. GEP and subsequent RT-PCR anal… Show more

“…HBEGF has been proved to be critical in tumorigenesis, progression and metastasis of different solid tumors [23][24][25]. Previous studies showed that HBEGF was up-regulated in thyroid cancer [26] and promoted the invasion and metastasis of thyroid cancer cells [26,27]. It was hence speculated that miR-376c-3p might inhibit MTC by downregulating HBEGF.…”

“…To identify such DEGs, microarray gene expression profiling is widely used [13,14], and several such studies have been performed on thyroid cancer subtypes [15]. For example, Huang et al [16] studied gene expression profiles of thyroid cancers, although not functional interactions between gene products.…”

“…O carcinoma de tireoide é o mais comum dentre todos os tumores de cabeça e pescoço, sendo o que mais acomete o sistema endócrino (CHA; KOO, 2016;KIRSCHNER et al, 2016). A incidência desse tipo de câncer tem aumentado gradativamente a nível mundial acometendo tanto mulheres quanto homens, entre todas as idades e diferentes grupos étnicos (YIP, 2015;RIA et al, 2016).…”
