GEMINI-E3, a general equilibrium model of international–national interactions between economy, energy and the environment

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present the new version of GEMINI-E3, which is the fifth and incorporates significant changes from the previous version in particular with respect to its size and its modularity. GEMINI-E3 is a Computable General Equilibrium Model and represents now a family of models of different specifications and with several successive versions. It retains many specifications that are common to CGE models but also some specific features, mainly concerning the measurement and analysis of the … Show more

“…All information about the model can be found at http://www.gemini-e3. net, including its complete description (Bernard and Vielle, 2008 In order to adequately evaluate the post-2012 Swiss climate policies, model all the envisaged instruments and consider the influence of the choices that will be made in the rest of the world, we have coupled the GEMINI-E3 model, a worldwide computable general equilibrium (CGE) model, with MARKAL-CHRES and MARKAL-CHTRA, two energy models describing respectively the Swiss residential and transportation sectors. This paper builds on the work undertaken in Sceia et al (2009) and uses a new coupling approach to assess the climate policies currently under discussion.…”

“…Within the first group, examples are given by the MIT-EPPA model (Paltsev et al, 2005) and the DICE and RICE model family (Nordhaus, 2012). The GEM-E3 model of the European Commission (Capros et al, 2013), the related GEMINI-E3 model (Bernard and Vielle, 2008), and the PACE modeling framework ) are examples for energy-related multi-regional models. Finally, the GENESwIS for Switzerland (Vöhringer, 2012) and the MIT U.S.…”
