“…EGFR is not the only target of gefitinib. Some clinicians [17] assumed that t(11;19) and associated fusion CRTC1-MAML2 may be the targets of EGFR TKI therapy. However, further studies need to be conducted to clarify the mechanism of EGFR TKIs.…”

“…However, it is possible that other genetic alterations may activate the EGFR signalling pathway in the absence of intrinsic gene mutations. For example, disease in patients with mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) of the salivary and bronchial glands with wild-type EGFR has responded to gefitinib 28,29 , and MEC cell lines are sensitive to EGFR TKIs in vitro 30 . As MECs harbour a recurrent mucoepidermoid carcinoma translocated 1 ( MECT1 ) – mastermind-like 2 ( MAML2 ) fusion 31 that induces expression of the EGFR ligand amphiregulin 30 , one possibility is that gefitinib sensitivity is mediated by the action of the aberrant fusion protein.…”

“…Ordinary MC has been shown to contain characteristic fusion genes, such as CRTC1‐MAML2 , CRTC2‐MAML2 and CRTC3‐MAML2 , which are associated with several clinicopathologic features, including patient's age and disease prognosis . These fusion genes have been identified in an unusual histological variant of MC and in tumors developing in non‐salivary gland sites . However, none of the aforementioned fusion‐ gene transcripts was indentified in our case.…”
