Objective: This study aimed to determine the smoking and Maras powder use by pregnant women living in Kahramanmaras and associated factors. Method: This research, a cross-sectional study method, was carried out in a state hospital in Kahramanmaras with 669 pregnant women. Research data were collected by the face-to-face meeting method through a questionnaire form. Results: 12.9% of the pregnant women smoked cigarettes, and 4.9% used Maras powder. The probability of smoking during pregnancy was high for women who graduated from primary school (OR=1.80; 95% CI=0.57-5.72), with a low-income level (OR=7.95; 95% CI=2.91-21.68), women without health insurance (OR=0.05; 95% CI=0.01-0.30), women who lived in the city (OR=4.40; 95% CI=1.14-16.93), women who perceived the relationship with their spouse negatively (OR=7.26; 95% CI=1.24-42.33), women who were smoking before pregnancy (OR=269.61; 95% CI=202.76-351.32), and whose spouses were smoking cigarettes (OR=1.29; 95% CI=1.14-1.47) and using Maras powder (OR=0.15; 95% CI=0.04-0.54). The rate of Maras powder use during pregnancy was high for women who had a negative relationship with their spouses (OR=3.29; 95% CI=1.32-8.16), whose spouses used Maraş powder (OR=4.41; 95% CI=1.83-10.65), and who also used Maras powder during pre-pregnancy (OR=2.41; 95% CI) =0.94-6.15). Conclusion: This study determined that a considerable number of women smoked cigarettes and used Maras powder during their pregnancies. It is recommended that new studies be planned to determine the use of Maras powder during pregnancy in Kahramanmaraş and its surrounding provinces.

Objective: Smoking habits of the pregnant woman do not only affect her, but also raise the health risks of the baby. Smoking is a preventable risk factor for pregnancy-related mortality and morbidity. In this study, pregnant women's awareness about the level of health problems that can be caused by smoking on the infants are questioned. Methods: This study was a descriptive, cross-sectional type field study and 4 family health centers from different regions were participated. The questionnaire was formed based on literature to elaborate women knowledge about risks to babies and included 13 questions (6 were personal and 7 were on smoking). Results: The mean age of participants (n = 124) was 27,4 ± 5,8. Majority of current pregnancies were voluntary (84,7%). Although only 2,4% of the pregnants smoked, 48.4% of them exposed to smoke by the spouse or someone close. When asked how many cigarettes daily could harm a baby, 87.1% of them thought that even 1 a day would suffice. The highest awareness rate among the problems was death / preterm delivery (59%). As the education level increased, the level of knowledge is increased, but the rate of smoking did not change. The level of knowledge was much higher in voluntary pregnancies. Conclusion: We found that our pregnant women had a very low level of cigarette smoking but did not have enough information about the negative effects of cigarette on the baby. Health personnel working in family health centers should educate the pregnant women about the consequences of active or passive exposure to cigarette smoke.

Amaç: Bu araştırma 0-2 yaş doğumsal anatomik anomalisi olan bebeklerin annelerinin aynı yaş grubunda sağlam bebeği olan anneler ile konjenital anatomik anomali oluşuma etken olan risk faktörleri açısından karşılaştırılması amacıyla planlanmıştır.Yöntem: Retrospektif, ilişki arayıcı ve tanımlayıcı tipte yapılan araştırma, 0-2 yaş arasında çocuğu olan, araştırmaya katılmayı gönüllü olarak kabul eden, çalışmanın yapıldığı tarihler arasında kurumda çocuğu yatarak tedavi olan 200 anne ile anket yöntemi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan annelerin tamamının yaş ortalamasının 30,25+5,99 (Min:19/ Maks: 42) yıl, çocuklarda en sık görülen konjenital anatomik anomalilerin ise genitoüriner sisteme ait olduğu (%46,0) belirlenmiştir. Çocukları konjenital anatomik anomali sahibi olan annelerin; şehirde yaşadığı, kronik hastalığa sahip olduğu, spinal anestezi ile bebeklerini dünyaya getirdikleri görülmüştür, çocukların iseçoğunluğu erkek olup erken doğum öyküsü bulunmaktadır (p<0.05). Annelerin gebelik sürecinde sigara tüketimi, pasif içiciliğe maruziyeti ve akraba evliliği yapma durumu çocuklarda konjenital anatomik anomali oluşumu açısından anlamlı farklılık ifade etmemektedir (p>0.05). Sonuç: Konjenital anatomik anomalilerin önlenmesi ile maternal ve fetal sağlığın korunması amacıyla koruyucu sağlık hizmetlerinin yaygınlaştırılması, annelerin gebelikte teratojenik etki oluşturabilecek risk faktörleri açısından bilinçlendirilmesi amacıyla eğitim programlarının düzenlenmesi önerilmektedir.
