GC-MS Characterization, In Vitro Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and In Silico NADPH Oxidase Inhibition Studies of Anvillea radiata Essential Oils

Abstract: Anvillea radiata is a medicinal plant that has been used in traditional phytotherapy in North Africa as a treatment for various illnesses. In this study, we aim to explore the antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial effects of essential oils of Anvillea radiata (EOAR) collected in Morocco. EOAR was extracted by the hydrodistillation method, and the phytochemical identification was carried out by gas chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). The antioxidant capacity was evaluated by the 2.2-diphenyl-1-picryl… Show more

“…It was shown that as inhibitor concentration rose from 50 to 600 ppm, the η % increased. The increase in (η%) with increasing the concentration of inhibitor denotes the inhibitor molecules' adsorption on the surface of the steel metal in the presence of (1M) HCl [31,[45][46][47]. Also, the findings show that the inhibition effectiveness and extent of surface coverage rise with increasing inhibitor concentrations and stabilize at 600 ppm at room temperature.…”

“…It was noted that the extract included several organic components containing oxygen heteroatom, enabling the adsorption of extract compounds onto the metal surface through the interaction of lone-pair electrons or π-orbitals of these components with vacant d-orbitals of metal atoms at the steel surface. From GC-MS analysis it is found that the inhibition efficiency is mainly due to the presence of larger organic components present in the OPE extract [47,48]. The EDXS image of the OPE specimen is shown in (Figure .…”

“…As a complement to experimental assessments, quantum chemistry approaches such as DFT and DFTB are now being explored to gain insights into the anticorrosive mechanism of essential oils by elucidating the electronic properties of their primary constituents. Beniaich et al 523 utilized the DFT method to study the adsorption of Artemisia herba-alba essential oils on metal surfaces, providing spatial distributions in the aqueous phase (Fig. 20).…”
