GC-MS analysis and in vitro antibacterial potential of volatile chemical constituents from leaves of Murrayakoenigii L. Spreng

Abstract: Murraya koenigii L. Spreng, commonly known as curry leaves, is usually employed for their flavoring properties in the food due to its distinct aroma. It is a source of essential oil that has been studied extensively for its therapeutic potentials. The volatile constituents were obtained from leaves of M. koenigii by hydro-distillation method. It was then evaluated for its antibacterial potential on four different strains of bacteria, i.e., Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Pasteurell… Show more

“…The Acronychia pedunculata extracts tested offered maximum RSA (Radical Scavenging Activities) of 65.94 % against E. coli. The antimicrobial activity of M. koenigii was estimated by well diffusion method; the maximum antibacterial activity was observed against Pasteurella multocida at 75% concentration (Mahendra et al, 2016;Gireesha and Raju, 2016;Aslam et al, 2017).…”

“…Interestingly, the accessions were clearly grouped in two quadrants supported by key variable compounds. The sesquiterpenes and few monoterpenes are a few variables that influence genotype differentiation and may be chemotaxonomic markers [ 17 , 18 ].

“…The fluorescence assay is a valued, simple, and absolute technique for the determination of fluorescence compounds. Diverse compounds produce fluorescence once exposed to the UV light short and long wavelength (Akbar et al, 2014;Aslam and Afridi, 2018). The fluorescence analysis is considered to be the most important step in standardization with absolute scientific validation of crude drugs.…”
