-ITAQUAQUECETUBA FORMATION PALYNOSTRATIGRAPHY, SÃO PAULO BASIN, BRAZIL. In order to identify the palynofloristic associations and their respective guide-species from the Mine Itaquareia 1 outcropping beds, in Itaquaquecetuba Formation (São Paulo sedimentary basin), 44 samples were analyzed, of which, 42 were collected along 10 columnar section and 2 of them immediately on the crystalline basement. The identification of the palynological associations endorsed the establishment of paleoclimate prevailing at the time of sedimentation, while the determination of the guide species aimed at defining the age of this lithostratigraphical unit. This age is very controversial in the literature, where is referred from the Eocene to the Pleistocene. This study has identified two palynofloristic associations: one Late Eocene and the other Early Oligocene. The first one is characterized by great diversity in palynoflora, especially, angiosperms, while the second, on the last three samples from the top of the section showed a reduction in biodiversity of flowering plants and increased amount of gymnosperms, especially, Dacrydiumites florinii. The Late Eocene palynofloristic associations suggested a subtropical to tropical moist paleoclimatic conditions, while the reduction of biodiversity and the expansion of gymnosperms, which occurs in the samples of the upper portion of the section, Early Oligocene in age, are evidence of colder weather in this period.Key words: Paleogene, paleopalynology, Itaquaquecetuba Formation, Brazil.RESUMO -Com o objetivo de identificar as associações palinoflorísticas e as respectivas espécies-guias nas camadas da Formação Itaquaquecetuba, bacia sedimentar de São Paulo, aflorantes na Mineradora Itaquareia 1, analisaram-se 44 amostras, das quais 42 foram coletadas ao longo de 10 seções colunares e 2 diretamente sobre o embasamento cristalino. A identificação das associações palinológicas visou o estabelecimento do paleoclima reinante à época da sedimentação, enquanto a determinação das espécies-guias teve como objetivo definir a idade dessa unidade litoestratigráfica, uma vez que é muito controversa na literatura, onde é referida desde o Eoceno até o Pleistoceno. Neste trabalho foram identificadas duas associações palinoflorísticas: uma do Neoeoceno e outra do Eo-Oligoceno. A primeira é caracterizada por grande diversidade na palinoflora, especialmente, angiospermas; enquanto a segunda, relativa às três últimas amostras do topo da seção, mostrou redução na biodiversidade de angiospermas e aumento na quantidade de gimnospermas, em especial, Dacrydiumites florinii. A associação palinológica do Neoeoceno evidenciou que a palinoflora presente corresponde a condições paleoclimáticas subtropicais a tropicais úmidas; enquanto a redução da biodiversidade e a expansão das gimnospermas, que ocorre nas amostras do Eo-Oligoceno, são evidências de condições climáticas mais frias neste período.Palavras-chave: Paleógeno, palinoestratigrafia, Formação Itaquaquecetuba, Brasil.
